Geraldton Trip

Over the June long weekend Light Flight headed up to Geraldton, about 4 hours drive from Perth, hoping for a spot of good flying. Jeff Robinson, Hermine Zielinski, Paul Morrison, Christina Quinn and Andrew Stokes all Light Flight students where hoping to start or complete there ridge soaring.
After such a long drive on Friday the wind was in the wrong direction there was really no need to rig up any of the gliders.

Saturday looked like a much better day with N/E wind Wozza's was the place to be, Paul was off the hill first but didn’t stay up for long, Hermine next with no ridge soaring experience Shaun (Light Flights CFI) guided Hermine (and all the students) off the hill, it looked as if Hermine was born to fly her handling of the glider and determination to stay in the air was impressive, well done Hermine.

Jeff was off next and as a GA commercial pilot Jeff may have a little bit of a head start with his training, true to form Jeff’s take off, soaring and landing where all perfect also being his first ridge soaring flight Jeff was very happy after his landing, his smile stayed it all.
Paul was determined to get up in the air and stay there jumping in to the Fun 190, soaring flight was something he had been waiting for, after being told off for not concentrating during his first flight. With Jeff, Hermine and Paul all completed a soaring flight it was time for the more experience pilots to have a go, Sun headed out in his old Misson, doing wing over after wing over, Jason Kath and Dr Mick flying high.
Sunday however was not so good with the wind direction changed in the afternoon Andrew managed to get his second soaring flight in after competing one in Albany over Easter.
Sun managed to jump in the demo Sonic 190 for a quick test fly before the wind direction changed. Though the days flying was not so good the nights drinking was. Starting with a one minute silence and fireworks for Dave Humphrey’s (Who sadly lost his life in a paragliding accident) sprits where still high.
Monday most people decided to drive home in the morning but those who stayed in Geraldton got a quick fly down the hill, Jeff, Hermine, Paul, Jason and Dr Mick all ended up in the landing paddock before heading back to Perth.

To everyone who turned up to Geraldton thank you, Dr Mick, Cath and Spike for the Accommodation and food. Sorry the paragliders didn’t get to fly (maybe you should take up hang gliding hehe.)
