Redbull Air Race

A free event for the entire family, the Red Bull Air Race will see South Perth buzz with activity, with six huge screens ensuring people feel part of the action. Highlights from the previous races and interviews with the pilots will be screened, and race commentary, music and entertainment will ensure the race is an event not to be missed.

The Air Race will take place between 11.30am and 2.00pm, however please note there will probably be some delays when it comes to leaving the event as we are expecting quite a large number of spectators to attend.

The Perth leg of the air race is the last of nine races that have been held in various international destinations including; Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Berlin, Istanbul, Budapest, Longleat, and San Francisco.

The Red Bull Air Race is a high performance aviation sport, which sees the world's greatest pilots fly between a series of 20 metre high inflatable pylons, known as air gates, in a predetermined sequence in the fastest possible time.

The racetrack extends between the Narrows Bridge and the Causeway. The best vantage point will be from Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth.

In celebration of the Red Bull Air Race World Series coming to Australia, Perth will host an Air Festival from Friday 17 November through to Sunday 19 November, which will include spectacular aircraft displays both on the ground and in the air.

The aerial displays will include a variety of flyovers and aerobatic displays on Friday and Saturday with the main activity occurring on Sunday 19 November before and after the Red Bull Air Race.

An on-ground aviation display will be located on Sir James Mitchell Park, near Coode Street, for all three days. The display area will include aircraft, flight simulators and a Pilot and Air Race exhibition.

Langley Park will be transformed into an airport for the duration of the event. On the morning of Sunday 19 November, Langley Park will host a free Paddock Walk from 8.30am. Members of the public will have a chance to meet the pilots and get autographs.

A detailed schedule of Air Festival activities will be available soon. All Festival information will be posted on the local event website www.redbullairrace.westernaustralia.com as it becomes available.

There will be public service areas located throughout Sir James Mitchell Park during the event - selling food, drinks and merchandise (please note the event is an alcohol free event). You can also purchase official Red Bull Air Race merchandise online at www.redbullairrace.com

If you have any more queries, please call the Red Bull Air Race information line on 1800 881 223.

We look forward to seeing you at the Red Bull Air Race in November!

Photos from our trip

Back in the West

After leaving Shoal Bay on the 11th September, we headed for the Moyes factory in Sydney hoping to leave the rain behind us, I think we where wishing.

The whole time we had be towing around a huge trailer which included our Microlight and the four demo gilders that we where given by Moyes at the start of the year (which where meant to go back however Moyes kindly allowed us to keep.) and not one accident and of cause just as we where leaving to travel home, Shaun ran into the Keep Left sign at the car park but we got away with little damage.

After leaving Sydney we headed for Tumut for the night, but we ended up in Gundagai for the night.
Tumut was lovely and green with hills every where, only if it wasn’t so far away from Sydney or Melbourne then we may have stayed longer.

Know it was time to head home, Shaun and I where planning to fly the Great Australia Bight on the way over east however the wind was to strong, but on the way home it was just right well sort off, so after staying at the Nullarbor Hotel for the night, Shaun and I headed up the Microlight.
Jackie was our pilot well sort of Shaun gave instructions to follow us in case was had to land short, well that didn’t work, Shaun and I were sitting in the trike waking good bye to the car as it shot of in the distance across the Nullarbor.
2 hours later we landed with about a litre of fuel left in the trike at Eucla.

Then it was of the Kalgoorlie for the weekend, having not had one problem with the trailer the whole way from W.A, NSW and QLD, about an hour out of Perth was had two blow outs causing us to use the last spare tyre.

Above are some Pictures of our trip, I didn’t get chance to take may pictures as it rained none stop and well we all know what rain looks like.

Enjoy..

Light Flight on the road 2

Well we have be staying at Bill Moyes beach house at Shoal Bay for about a week know, got back from QLD after a couple of days staying with the Durand family.
The only down side is that about every day it has been raining.

There has been a lot of driving around in the car, even Chilli knows why we are hear every morning reminding us that its time to go out looking for land.

Shaun and I when for a fly in the trike there other day we where hoping to fly over lambs valley, Shaun had seen two really nice ridges that would have been great for the fight park, but due to controlled air space that was a no go, so we flow down the railway line in not the best conditions to fly in but you get that.

As there is not much night life in Shoal Bay (living next to an old ppl's home that is) we have been spending our nights ten pin bowling, my skills are getting better and even my mum have improved for once hehe.

Friday night we headed out on the town in Newcastle after visiting the Indian.

Well Monday we are heading down to the Moyes factor then down to Tumut and Victoria before heading to Kal and back home.

However I will write again soon sorry no pictures have been placed on the blog my internet connection is not that fast.

Light Flight on the road

Currently Light Flight is on the east coast of Australia, after having travelled 4 and a half days with a stop over in Kalgoorlie we arrived very tired in Newcastle.
With a bumping start to our long awaited holiday, we are now finally settled at a Caravan Park over looking the Lake Macquire in Newcastle.

We met up with Jamie, who took Shaun out flying and 4WD.
Shaun has given everyone the flu so there are lots of tissues around the place.

Next we are planning to visit Airborne here in Newcastle and also travel to Sydney where we have been invited to dinner with Bill Moyes.

Chilli is running around crazy with a silly stick or two.

Will write more on our travels when it comes to hand.
